Calgary Snow Route Parking Bans Explained

Updated June 1, 2026

When Calgary gets significant snow, the City can declare a Snow Route Parking Ban so plows can clear designated routes. Parking on a snow route during a ban risks a ticket and a tow — here’s how to stay clear.

When a snow route ban starts

The City declares a ban after significant snowfall, typically starting roughly 18 hours after the snow stops — but timing is the City’s call based on conditions, not a fixed clock. Designated snow routes are marked with signs.

The rules during a ban

Vehicles parked on a designated snow route during a ban are subject to ticketing and/or towing.

Downtown and Business Improvement Areas: parking is permitted 6am–9pm in a ParkPlus zone on a snow route during a ban, but not 9pm–6am (when plowing happens).

On-street accessible parking zones on snow routes are exempt from bans at all times.

How to check for an active ban

Check the City of Calgary’s Snow Route Parking Bans map (maps.calgary.ca/SnowRouteParkingBans) or the City’s roads pages. If a ban is active and you’re on a snow route, move your vehicle to a side street or off-route parking.
